Resumes are an important part of your job search – it consists of your relevant qualifications, training, and work history. For those with an international background, this is different from what you may be accustomed to, known as a Curriculum Vitae (CV).
Types of Resumes:
Chronological: Lists your work experience in reverse chronological order. Best suited for a straightforward work history.
Functional: Focuses on skills and abilities rather than work history. Best suited for those switching industries or with gaps in employment.
Combined/Hybrid: Lists your summary, skills, and accomplishments before your work history. Best suited for those with all types of backgrounds in order to show transferable skills and abilities first.
The Big 5:
Name and Contact Information: Include your name, address, best phone number and email, and the option to include your LinkedIn and/or professional website.
Career Profile/Summary: Within 3-4 sentences you want to express who you are, what your interests are, what skills you have, and what you can offer to a company.
Skills: You can list both your technical and interpersonal skills – be sure to include the ones that are required for the job you are targeting!
Professional Experience: You want to list what you have accomplished, not just what you did.
Education and Certifications: Include only Associate Degrees and higher
