Personal Branding

Personal Branding is identifying your assets, characteristics, strengths, and skills as an individual. Branding is a mix of how you present yourself and how others see you. It is important to be aware of how you are viewed.

Key components of your personal brand are:

  1. How you speak
  2. Your attitude and how you treat others
  3. Skills and strengths

What does your personal brand look like?

Here are 3 strategies to help you manage your personal brand:

Elevator Pitch

At a job interview, career fair, networking/social event, you will most likely be asked, “Tell me about yourself?” This is a perfect opportunity to tell your story (your achievements, value, and goals). Here are some examples on how to answer that question.

How to Present Yourself

The way you dress and present yourself for a job interview can make or break landing the job. One of the top reasons candidates are not hired is because of their appearance and/or poor dress.

Only 8% of what you say, makes up the first impression. The rest is how you look and how you present yourself.

As you build your personal brand and express your brand through your behavior, ask yourself: How do I want to be perceived? What messages does my body language need to send to create that perception?

Social Media

Personal branding also extends your persona on online platforms.

SOCIAL MEDIA STATISTICS:

  • 70% of hiring managers say they’ve successfully hired with social media.
  • 89% of companies plan to recruit on social media.
  • 70% of employers use social media to screen candidates before hiring.

So before you post, pause – if you think it could be questionable or inappropriate, we suggest not to post.
