Horizons of Discovery: Westcliff University’s San Diego Expedition
In yet another exciting voyage orchestrated by Westcliff University’s Student Life team, more than 50 eager students set off for a day of discovery in the sunny city of San Diego, Calif. With the promise of exploring iconic landmarks and forging lasting connections, the itinerary was set for a memorable adventure down to this picturesque city.
The day began with a dawn departure from Westcliff University in Irvine, Calif. as students eagerly boarded the bus bound for one of their first ports of call: Seaport Village. Nestled along the picturesque waterfront, this charming enclave greeted them with open arms, offering a treasure trove of quaint shops, delectable eateries, and panoramic views of the impressively large USS Midway Aircraft Carrier. As the sun cast its golden glow upon the historic ship, students marveled at its towering presence, a testament to the city’s rich naval heritage. Amidst the hustle and bustle of Seaport Village, friendships flourished, and memories were etched against the backdrop of San Diego Bay and the bustling downtown area.
As the journey went on, next was a visit to Old Town San Diego, where history and culture converged in a vibrant tapestry of sights and sounds. Amidst the adobe buildings and bustling plazas, students embraced the spirit of exploration, eating authentic Mexican cuisine to refuel for lunch, dancing to music playing in the town square, experiencing a new and different side to the city.
From there, the expedition charted a course for La Jolla, the crown jewel of San Diego’s coastline. With its rugged cliffs, pristine beaches, and striking blue waters teeming with sea life, La Jolla immersed students in the natural beauty of the area. Students met at a local ice-cream shop for a quick, cool treat as they basked in the warmth of the sun and watched the surf crash onto shore. After, they trekked through some of the small natural rock caverns and lookout points in this quintessentially California spot. Many students remarked that it was one of their favorite stops throughout the day and a place they would love to come back to. As the sun began to set and the day came to close, against the backdrop of a stunning sunset, students took photos with one another and gathered for group shots to remember the day and continued in conversations, which also brought them closer together.
Many students hailed this trip as perhaps the best one yet, stating, “This is something I wouldn’t want anyone to miss out on.” Peer mentor and Westcliff DBA student, Stephanie Cruz commented, “This trip fostered a strong sense of community and so much joy in connecting with other Westcliff students. The weather was perfect and the atmosphere relaxed allowing everyone to enjoy each moment.” As Westcliff University students bid farewell to San Diego and returned home, they carried with them not only memories of iconic landmarks and breathtaking vistas but also a profound sense of belonging and camaraderie fostered by their shared adventure, embodying the spirit of exploration and connection that defines the Westcliff experience.
