Blankets of Hope: Westcliff’s Volunteer Event Wraps Community in Warmth and Positivity
On August 22, Westcliff University’s Irvine campus was transformed into a hub of creativity and positivity as more than 17 dedicated volunteers gathered to make a difference in the community by crafting no-sew fleece blankets for those in need. In partnership with OC United Way, this collaborative event brought together staff, students, and other community members to achieve a common goal: helping the community stay warm, one blanket at a time.
The atmosphere throughout the event was filled with great energy and a strong sense of purpose as volunteers worked diligently on their blankets. Fueled by great music permeating the room and delicious food, each volunteer was ready to start no-sewing and creating as many blankets as possible.
The event offered a beginner and family-friendly approach to crafting, with participants working in small groups to create fleece blankets that will be distributed to Laura’s House, a domestic violence shelter and non-profit partner of Westcliff. These blankets will offer warmth and comfort during cold winter months and chilly summer nights to individuals who need them most.
Throughout the event, the donation box was filled with cheerful patterns, including dinosaurs, cats, and blankets with positive messages. Each blanket was also accompanied by a handwritten note from the team that created it, along with a card featuring the 211 helpline number. This ensures that individuals in need not only receive a necessary warm blanket but also have access to a valuable resource for additional support.
In total, Westcliff volunteers helped create 10 blankets. The event was not just about creating blankets – it was a testament to the power and impact of coming together for a common cause. The blankets created will undoubtedly bring comfort to many and emphasize the commitment to kindness and generosity from the Westcliff family.
As we reflect on the success of this event, we encourage everyone to stay informed about future volunteer opportunities at Westcliff and continue making a positive impact in our community. Engaging in community service not only helps those in need but also strengthens and fosters a culture of giving and support.
Together, we can continue to support those in need and spread warmth and compassion.
