Westcliff University Provides Ongoing Support and Opportunities for Military Community

Westcliff University, in partnership with Orange County’s Veterans Employment and Entrepreneurship Group (EEWG), has been hosting a series of impactful gatherings designed to empower individuals with military backgrounds. These gatherings, aptly named, “Veterans’ Series in Person Forum,” serve as a beacon of support, providing resources, connections, and a safe haven for veterans to share their stories.

The recent monthly gathering, hosted at Westcliff’s main campus in Irvine, California, was a testament to the commitment of both Westcliff and the EEWG to the military community. Bringing together veterans, active duty and reserve service members, and military family members, the event offered a plethora of resources and opportunities. Attendees indulged in an array of delicious food and beverages from the on-site Hangar 24 Bar & Restaurant, fostering enriching conversations centered around career development.

Moreover, these gatherings serve as a bridge between the military and civilian communities, offering Westcliff students, faculty, and staff the chance to engage with and support those who have served our country. Cristian Cabrera, Westcliff’s Assistant Director of Military and Veteran Affairs and a US Marine Corps veteran himself, played a pivotal role in organizing the event, reaffirming Westcliff’s commitment to being an educational home for the military community.

The event also had representatives from outside organizations that offer fantastic resources for veterans and the military community, including the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI), which offers accessible help and mental health resources. As well as One OC, a 65-year running Orange County non-profit that seeks to help other nonprofit organizations find success in their missions.

One particularly inspiring aspect of the gathering was the entrepreneurial spirit on display, which perfectly aligns with the innovative approach Westcliff takes to education. A member of the EEWG, who owns a high-end contract security company, shared his journey as an entrepreneur through the lens of his military experience. Offering career opportunities to fellow members, his story exemplified the tight-knit community ethos prevalent at these events.
